about

This is a collaboration with Phil Elverum and Walter, Etc.

lyrics

ME:
My brother texted yesterday, the fire had retreated
But the guy who used to trim our trees and his family didn't beat it
The valley is 100 degrees and addled by diseases
So they’re hanging home and hiding out in a place that’s safe for breathing

CHORUS
Everything we lack, will live and die behind the mask
We’ve beaten up our hearts, and they’re beating back

PHIL ELVERUM:
The other day after racist psychos beat their way through the government building
In DC I learned that my high school girlfriend had driven there with her babies
Off the rails, our lives barreling off apart in different directions
But I remember her heart, this is uncomfortable compassion

WALTER, ETC:
The CPR didn’t work, I watched him die on the beach at sunset
The biopsy came back to hurt, she’s on the next flight to Cleveland
For every action there’s an equal opposite reaction
I feed the strays and congratulate my companions on their passing
