Lori Laughlin’s daughter is a coxswain She never pulled a paddle but aunt Becki found a way To push her boat across a dirty lake Eighty-thousand dollars sianara Don’t know what I’m doing but I’m worried about tomorrow And I’m a sucker for the shiny and the hollow I’m a sucker for a placard on a wall Someone in this room has got the answers They're sharpening the pencils and drawing lines to Stanford Just a Housewife and a mother with a ladder Bury me in this Great Recession Got me and the economy depressed again Pulling pennies paying San Francisco rent Fuck you Sallie every time you cash these checks I pour myself a drink and scroll through Netflix The cop from Stranger Things and some Director of Athletics Selling scholarships to the rich and the semi famous That’s when I learned Lori Laughlin’s daughter was a coxswain It’s really called a coxsun but her daughter never was one Nothing matters we’re all paddling into nothing This is you’re debt just keep on rowing you’ll get somewhere This is you’re debt just keep on rowing you’ll get somewhere This is you’re debt just keep on rowing you’ll get somewhere

Start my day with a palmful of vitamins And bend my body into the carpet Sit on my bed and push the blood to my knee Can finally bend it but its best days are gone If you wanna move on you better stretch out your body You’re only breaking apart with every notch on the wall When you get high you talk, but always look up to see if anybody is laughing When you spell God you do it with a capital G But you’re not looking too happy Saying prayers for your friends if that’s a word you can call them Just the people you knew when you had no choice at all Skipping rocks in a line They’re alive then they die And then they live another life Fixing your eyes on the tilt of the planet And moving with the turn of the ball Spend every night getting wasted and wishing On the stars that you know never will fall And if you wanted your freedom why’d you move to an island? Unless your version of free is getting rinsed in the rain Skipping rocks in a line They’re alive then they die Skipping rocks in a line They’re alive then they die And then they live another life

I don’t need to see another bite To know that we’re all losing sleep at night Draw the bugs into the light Everybody gets terrified sometimes I don’t wanna spin out my life Turning over loads of laundry in my mind We fold our problems in a pile Pull the sheets around and say goodnight I don’t wanna worry about the dog’s behavior I don’t wanna wonder if I’m a shitty neighbor I don’t wanna put the battle off till later I just wanna take you on a walk I just wanna lay around in talk I just wanna pull the pressure off

We’re burning up energy slowly paying no mind to the passing time Trying not to get fed up, never making our bed up or even leaving the house Pushing our way through the winter, and we’re supplementing sunshine with vitamin D pills Taking in breaths, what we got left is springing up from the ground We’re turning our homes into messes and laughing at god as if he’d ever bless us We can empty the bottle and dig into the bottom, strip the roots from the ground Peel back the old linoleum away from the concrete that’s coldly holding Take a knife to the bedrock, we’re in with the modern, and we're out with the rot We thought about telling you something of substance, after 30 odd year of floating above it But don’t you dare quote us, don’t you even think of writing it down We got to keep up our reputations, our public projections, our human relations Turning words into water, water to wine and wine into one of those things you might hide behind We’re sending our blood to the bottom, watching chemicals do laps in our bodies We’re pictures of health, right as the rain, but we’re pounding our hearts and we’re straining our brains We always hoped we might get back this way, maybe cash in a couple vacation days Got our eyes on our phones and we think we’re gonna miss the rain Our pens hit the page, horrible things to say To annihilate the enemy, we say em anyways Everyone I know is off to the war Wearing out their jeans and all getting old I will wear it well till it wears me down to the core Everyone I know is off to the war
